Direct Thermal Labels – Permanent Adhesive Paper Labels
Our direct thermal labels are made from direct thermal paper with a permanent adhesive, making them ideal for barcode printing, shipping, warehouse identification, inventory control, dispatch, logistics and general-purpose labelling.
Direct thermal labels print without a thermal transfer ribbon. The heat-sensitive paper reacts directly to the printer's thermal printhead, providing a simple and cost-effective solution for short-to-medium-term variable data printing.
Available in White, Yellow, Green, Orange, Pink and Blue, with a range of roll quantities and core sizes to suit different direct thermal label printers.

38 mm vs 76 mm Core Sizes
The core size refers to the inside diameter of the tube that the labels are wound around.
38 mm Core
A smaller core commonly used for compact rolls and printers where a smaller outside roll diameter is required.
76 mm Core
A larger 3-inch core commonly used for higher-capacity rolls, including many 1000-label-per-roll configurations and industrial label printers.
Important: Always check your printer's supported core diameter and maximum outside roll diameter before ordering.
Wound Out vs Wound In
The winding direction describes whether the printable surface of the label faces the outside or inside of the roll.
Wound Out
The printable face of the label is positioned on the outside of the roll.
This is the most common winding direction across this product range.
Wound In
The printable face of the label is positioned on the inside of the roll.
We do offer a wound-in configuration within the range, although wound-in rolls are considerably less common.
If your printer or applicator requires a particular winding direction, please check the selected variant before ordering.
Popular Roll Configurations
Popular configurations include:
Higher-capacity roll with a 76 mm core and the printable label face wound outward.
More compact roll with a 38 mm core and the printable label face wound outward.
Other quantities and configurations may be available depending on the selected colour and product variant.
Common Applications
- Barcode labels
- Shipping and dispatch labels
- Warehouse identification
- Inventory and stock control
- Carton and product identification
- Picking and packing
- Logistics and transport

Coloured direct thermal labels are particularly useful for visual identification, allowing different colours to represent departments, stock groups, priorities, warehouse locations or processing stages.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are direct thermal labels?
Direct thermal labels use heat-sensitive paper that produces an image when it passes beneath a compatible thermal printhead. No thermal transfer ribbon is required.
Do these labels have permanent adhesive?
Yes. These labels use a permanent adhesive designed for general-purpose applications where the label is intended to remain attached.
Adhesive performance can vary depending on the surface, temperature and application conditions.
Do direct thermal labels require a ribbon?
No. Direct thermal labels are heat-sensitive and print directly from the printer's thermal printhead, so no thermal transfer ribbon is required.
What core sizes are available?
The most common core sizes in this range are 38 mm and 76 mm.
The correct core size depends on your printer's media holder and maximum supported roll diameter.
What does 1000 / 76 mean?
1000 Per Roll / 76 mm Core / Out means approximately 1000 labels are supplied on each roll, wound around a 76 mm internal core, with the printable label surface facing outward.
What does 350 / 38 mean?
350 Per Roll / 38 mm Core / Out means approximately 350 labels are supplied on each roll, wound around a 38 mm internal core, with the printable label surface facing outward.
What does "wound out" mean?
Wound out means the printable face of the label is positioned on the outside of the roll. This is the most common configuration across this range.
Are any of these labels wound in?
Yes. There is a wound-in configuration available within the broader range, although it is much less common.
Wound in means the printable label surface faces toward the inside of the roll.
Can I use these labels in any thermal printer?
Your printer must support direct thermal printing and accommodate the selected label width, core diameter, outside roll diameter and winding direction.
If you're unsure, provide us with your printer make and model and we can help identify a suitable roll configuration.
Why choose coloured direct thermal labels?
Coloured direct thermal labels make products, cartons, stock or workflow stages easier to identify visually.
They can be useful for warehouse zones, departments, product groups, priorities, dispatch processes, inventory organisation and quality control.
How do I choose the correct variant?
Check the following before ordering:
- Label colour
- Labels per roll
- 38 mm or 76 mm core
- Winding direction
- Maximum outside roll diameter
- Compatibility with your printer
If you're unsure, contact us with your printer make and model and we can help identify the appropriate option.
